Schools

Schools can be sites that enact structural stigma.

Often learning curricula are designed to cater to neurotypical learners. Sitting in the same space for hours, deadlines that penalize late submissions and a lack of accommodations can further discriminate against students that are neurodivergent and cannot conform to rigid schedules. In addition, students who are not able to conform to these expectations may feel a reduced sense of self, further contributing to the deterioration of their mental health. In what ways do you think structural stigma can manifest itself within the site of the school?
